Priorities for San Diego Students, teachers, & schools

My hope is that with my experience as a teacher leader, curriculum expert, and passionate youth advocate, I will be able to promote change within the County’s current structure of student learning. Our youth deserve people who will stand up and fight for their right to a quality education regardless of their background and location, just like their flourishing peers throughout San Diego County.

  • Improve the system of allocating supports and resources to all districts through an equitable lens, especially for our schools with more vulnerable student populations including: Juvenile Court and Community Schools, Special Day Schools for students with special needs, and indigenous schools in San Diego County.

  • Review the current expulsion process, including suspensions and the incorporation of Restorative Justice strategies before extreme disciplinary actions are taken. It is critical to ensure alternative methods of behavioral management are thought out, especially considering how expulsions often target students of minority backgrounds.

  • Review county-wide processes for hiring leadership positions, especially in light of current Superintendent search. Ensuring there are appropriate systems to hire diversity leaders who have a sensitivity to cultural appropriateness/representation and are well qualified.
